Setup Problems
I have Sprint DSL and followed all the steps exactly and even redid the steps, because I still had my modem, firewall, and popup blockers working when I tried to set it up on my first try, and still could not connect to the internet after setup.
The first time I loaded the installation CD, I passed every step until it started checking for an Internet connection. The next time I tried to set it up, it could not detect my router even though I everything wired correctly-just as I had when I had when I passed every step before it started checking for an Internet connection.
The next thing I did was called Tech Support. Maybe Belkin is not compatible with Sprint DSL because when I called the Sprint technical support rep. told me that he can only help me with a Linksys router. He did not say it was not compatible and gave me the number to Belkins. I called Belkin's tech support and repeatedly followed his instructions and even then, still could not get an internet connection. Although,I did get to the homepage that he guided me to. It still would not work because the link ended 3 times with "the page cannot be displayed."
He told me to turn off the computer, and reload the installation CD and I go through the whold process again. I turned off all the pop up blockers, virus scanners, ect., undid and redid the steps and again, the installation CD said it could not detect my router.
After that, I returned it to the store the same day I bought it and got a Linksys wireless router, which I installed and set up with absolutely no problem.
misleading label
This is nothing more than an old-fashioned router, fairly slow and hyped in a way implying it is a cable (gateway) modem - it may do what a router is supposed to do, but JR/Amazon is not quite honest in how it is presented.
Works great - even at far distance
I just bought this item and it seems to work great. I have one computer connected over wire and two wireless. Both work great. The wireless works at further distances than the linksys I owned and just dumped. Setup was easy (except that the default SSID described in the manual isn't the same one that was configured - but this was easy to figure out). I have 64bit WEP enabled and have no problems. I also like that it has the parental control feature (although I have not yet tested that).
