Xbox version is better
The Xbox version is sooo much better in all respects. Xbox forever!!!
Fun, But Sometimes Difficult
Let me start by saying that I'm a HUGE LOTR fan, and so of course I had to get the video game. I wasn't disappointed, for the most part. You can play as 5 charcters: Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Sam. 4 more are unlocked after you beat the game. There are 3 paths to choose from: the wizards path(Gandalf), the path of the king (Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli), and the path of the hobbits (Frodo and Sam). Also has clips from the movies as an introdction to most of the levels. There are several pros and cons to this game:
Pros:
- Awesome, realistic graphics. Return of the King by far has the best in the series.
- Smooth movement. Every movement and attack is super realistic and super smooth...just like watching the movie.
- Plenty of locations from the movie to play in.
- Allows you play with a friend in co-op mode. The best part about that is there's no more split screens- just one big screen.
- After you beat the game you unlock several secret characters (Merry, Pippin, Frodo, and Faramir), along with interviews of some of the acters from the movies. But the big bonus to me are the codes they give you. After you punch in those codes, the game is all too easy.
Cons:
- Some of the levels are just too darn hard, even when you have the game difficulty set to easy. It took me a couple trys on some of the levels to get past them.
- The introductions to the levels are too long. They include clips from the movie before almost all of the levels, and after you've already seen them it gets annoying. However, you can just skip them by pressing X if you've already beaten that level.
- After you've beaten the game, there's not much to do except endlessly slay orcs and men.
Overall, if you enjoy fighting games, then this is for you. If you're a diehard fan of LOTR, this is for you. If you're neither, then I'd rent it first, and if you fall madly in love with it, get it.
** Select Codes**
While playing, press start. Hold down the L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons at the same time while punching in these letters. You'll hear a confirmation sound every time you've correctly entered a code:
Unlock Faramir: X,X,triangle,triangle
Unlock Frodo: triangle,circle,circle,circle
Unlock Merry: X,down,down,X
Unlock Pippin: triangle, circle,X,circle (this one won't work for me sometimes)
The following codes are character specific; enter the code that corresponds to the character you're conrolling:
+ 1000 experience points:
Aragorn: up,square,triangle,X
Faramir: square,triangle,up,square
Frodo: down,triangle,up,down
Gandalf: circle,triangle,up,down
Gimli: circle,circle,triangle,X
Legolas: X,triangle,up,X
Merry: down,down,square,X
Pippin: triangle,X,square,X
Sam: triangle,X,down,X
sorry amazon but this is not a toy, more adults then kids that would play this game
First of all, I must say I got the ASPYR version for mac computers. It's ok but whenever too much is going on for the computer to handle, it pauses in 5 second incriments. Besdies that, it is a little delayed and it makes it harder to play. Besides that I really wish it was first person view not third. There are times when I cannot even see my character at all, in the middle of a huge fight even! What am I supposed to do then? Probably if the game was in first person view, I'd be able to beat it, even with all the other problems. One of the most annoying things is that in my book under the combo attacks, it either tells me a combonation of right-right-right click, or left-left-left click. Well guess what ASPYR? Macs don't have a right and left click on their mouse button, we only have one, what then? Why couldn't you just make a list of which attacks make up each combonation? Maybe then I would be able to know what to do with bigger enemies, like the king of the dead for instance. This looks like a very enjoyable game, i will admit it is fun, but very frustrating. Now I have to go through google to find the combos that i need to know and hope that will be enough to help me overcome all the other problems. This is very very very frustrating to me.
