Another good Myst!
I finally upgraded my computer and it allowed me to finally get Revelation. It installed fine and runs great. I did have a cranky device driver on something else that messed up DirectX input. But that was not the games fault, just too much new stuff on new machine. The game is great, visually stunning and I love the endless sound track. It really lets me become absorbed in the play. I did find the neckless a little tiresome although the content really adds debth to the story and experience. I play along with the Prima guide, so I follow their path. I find I like the visuals, sound and story more than the exploration and puzzles. So, I get guided though them. I am almost done and good thing because Myst V ships this week!!!!
Myst IV Revelation
Before I bought this I read reviews stating the fact the game may not run on my machine if used in a DVD-ROM drive. I knew that I would not have a problem with that because I put it in a cd-rw burner that had a dvd read combo. Its a large game when you use the full install option(8 gigs).
DIFICULTY: I thought this game was really hard at times! I would come across puzzles where I had to consult the online strategy guide and even then I was not able to solve them without a save file. So, as far as dificulty is concerned, I believe Ubisoft made this game too dificult!
GRAPHICS: This game without a doubt has the best looking graphics I have ever seen in the Myst series! Everything in the game was so crisp and clear, you could tell it was fully utilising direct x 9. But as a cost for graphics you lose framerate. I have a Intel 2GZ with 1gig of RAM and a 128mb FX 5900XT video card. With all options on and settings at high, it was taxing my system. If you plan to buy this game I would make sure you have at least a 2.4GZ CPU with 1gig RAM and a 6600 GT video card!
GAMEPLAY: Movement in this game is that of the same from Myst III Exile. However, I thought the mouse curser was a little sluggesh when moving it over objects to be interacted with. In this game however, there is alot more that you can interact with. You will be phisically moving your hand on the mouse more in this game as that is the only way to move levers and such. You also have the option to tap your hand against different objects to hear the sound they make.
SOUND & MUSIC: I thought the sounds in this game were well done, I never once felt like they ported the sounds over from the originaly Myst. Sometimes you have to listen to certain sounds and remember them as you will need to use them somewhere else in the game. The music in this game is also great in that it plays at the right times and places! The music really pulls you into the game with its vast beauty. Music from Peter Gabriel can also be heard in the game!
SUMMERY: I thought the game was a little too dificult to play at times and had to consult the online strategy guide! I thought this game looked great with its vast enviroments! This game really gets you involuved with its gameplay/interactivity. I thought the sounds and music were great, especially when played at certain times! This game requires lots of resources, I would make sure you have at least a 2.4GZ CPU with 1gig RAM and a 6600 GT video card! I give this game a 4 out of 5
Eh...
ok, this game in a nutshell:
great for a computer game.
terrible for a MYST game.
Myst games aren't like this. this game is just wierd. you need a super-hyper video card to use the distance effects, and i do not have a super-hyper video card. however, i can run all the other myst games on full settings. If you don't have the distance effects on, the game is almost impossible. i was stuck for a week because there was no textural difference between the wall of a tunnel and the wall the tunnel was in. it was horrible. the movies are fuzzy. the transitions between movie and gameplay? seamless? no. not in any way, shape, or form. the movies are high-quality (if a little fuzzy), while the gameplay looks like it was made using an entirley different rendering engine.
yeesha's voice was very choppy.
Dream? whats up with that? thats the absolute hardest puzzle in the entire myst series. its messed up.
ok, i enjoyed finding out more of the story, and finally seeing spire and haven, but overall im not pleased with the game.
i put it up to the fact that ubisoft, not cyan worlds, made it.
