easy to take anywhere
Mac User- this thing is cool. the music sounds good using a digital cable via an adapter. the printing is wireless which is also cool. the best thing is that i can take it to my classroom, hook it up to any modem and have wireless internet. pretty cool. especially for mac users.
Great when it works, but difficult to set up in Windows
The AirPort Express is a very nicely designed, handy product. The idea is unique, whether you want to use it to stream music from your computer to a stereo, bridge your existing wireless network, or even set up a wireless print server. But if you're a Windows user, the setup is not "plug in play" and the documentation is very unhelpful. I spent hours trying to get it to connect to my existing Belkin Windows network, constantly resetting it, trying to remember what the indicator light means (there's one light---it differentiates between green, orange, flashing green, flashing orange, fast flashing green, and fast flashing orange---don't know if there are any other combinations or colors). The administrative software is great if everything connects, but I've usually found that it doesn't, which means you'll have to keep shuffling through the minimalistic program, searching the Apple forums for news on possible product updates, as well as the tried-and-true unplug and repower routine.
In short, unless you own an Apple computer (or have an existing wireless network), OR have an insatiable urge to stream music from your Windows PC to your home stereo without trying some of the other (non iTunes related) products out there, I would stay away from this until Windows support (when one can finally say, "it just works") is dramatically improved.
Excellent Product
This is another excellent Apple product. If you have the money, I would strongly recommend this product over all other wi-fi broadcasting devices.
