Replacement ink cartridges are much cheaper than either my old Epson or the HP I use at work. This is a perfect printer for homework or home office work as well as for amateur digital photography. Very stylish as well. Great price at Amazon but did not qualify for free shipping. However, came with $20- manufacturer's rebate which paid for the shipping. Just bought the replacement model, the 4200.... I just received the replacement model, the 4200, direct from the Canon eStore. The only place I've seen that it is available. My initial impressions are that it is an excellent printer, easy set-up and with excellent color printing capability.....of course I'm coming from an old HP printer, so I may be seeing a bigger improvement in quality than people using more current printers. I strongly recommend it.
