Customer Reviews

Coby 7100 good in its class

After having gone through several reviews of this unit, I come to the conclusion that it may not have been such a good deal after all. Yes, the Coby 7100 IS a good player in its class. But having read about 80 reviews around the WEB, I've come across nearly 15% of users say that their unit quit on them anywhere from a few days to a few months-- that's inexcusable manufacturing, COBY!

So far, I've had the unit only a few hours and I am quite happy with every aspect, even the sound from the cheap audio componenents. I figure for the price you're not going to get great sound.

The look and feel of the unit is pretty good as well. Some design changes would have complemented it better without having to swell the price any, but that's Coby. I used the unit before charging the battery (unconnected) and I was very impressed with the screen quality. I put in "Artificial Intelligence" and was literally blown across the room with its nice screen detail. Of course I put it in wide-screen format and enjoyed several minutes of the movie.

Too bad there is no 5.1 sound output for the unit (but then I am getting greedy, aren't I?). All in all, its a great unit for the low price and I would recommend it to anyone, with this caveat:
many users have had defects crop up after a fews day to a few months. So, If the little you spend for this unit is worth only a possible few months, fine. If you get a unit that is perfect, then all the better.

I own one of their CHEAPest players (not portable, under $50) DVD-514 and it is just as good as any several hundred dollar unit out there!!! That thing has Progressive Scan AND outputs for 5.1 and the usual trimmings. So...

A company that can make a player like the DVD-514, should have its act together when making a simple portable, right?

We shall see
