8400f review

I guess I like this scanner. Mac OS 10.4. It has 3 adaptors. 1 for slides, 1 for 35mm negatives and 1 for 120 film, I dont know what the 120 film type is. Removing the white backround on the underside of the lid to put in the slide and negative adapter is very easy. I did scan slides and negatives. The included adapters make it real easy. DO NOT HIT THE TAB key when trying to move the cursor from box to box in the advanced setup mode, it will freeze the interface, you will have to exit out and get back in. Just type in 400% in the output size box and hit enter, then click on the next preview of a slide or negative. Type 400, hit enter, click on next slide. Then your life will be easy as pie.

The quality is OK I guess. I was given an HP all in one, the blacks did not cut it. I scanned a photo of a friend with black hair and the quality was OK. It is not the fastest thing though. I have a G5 with USB 2. I scan from within Photoshop so I can run actions to adjust levels and shadow & hi-lights. The built in dust removal option is amazing. I had a slide that was of the beautiful Florida keys, with a killer blue sky, but a ton of black scratch marks, the software took them away, it works it truly worked.

There is a software button to scan in silent mode......that kinda works too. But why even have it. This scanner I feel is OK for the $150 I paid. I have not tried the front panel button yet. I would recommend this product.

I have used the scanner to scan in old slides and it did an excellent job. It is easy to use.
