Solid
I have been very happy with this camera since we got it. The only potential negative would be battery life, although I don't hvae much to compare it with. Picture quality and ease of use are great. And it has an easy button, which geuinely works.
Wonderful camera-Amazing software
This little thing is wonderful. It takes great shots and video. Nightshot makes it easy to tape in the dark as well. Very small and very easy to use, on screen display of settings makes it even easier to use. No small buttons to fool with. So simple and easy to use. You can take video and pictures in sepia, black & white, pastel sketch, old movie and mosiac. Will also shoot across a basketball court making it look like you was out there with the players. And the software that came with it is amazing. You can add music and special affects to make awesome home movies. I just love all this. Its excellant for scrapbookers, mom's and anyone tired of boring, plain home movies.
I just had to come back and add after using this amazing little camcorder for awhile, I am still pleased with my purchase. It is so easy to use as well as the software that came with it. I have taped and taped over and over with it and couldnt ask for a better camcorder without shelling out mega bucks. You do have to finalize the disks before you can upload to a computer, but thats just as easy. And when you tape at night, it still shows up really clear, not so dark you cant see. If I had to purchase another, I would get this one again without a second thought about it. And its so easy to use in just one hand. If I could, I would give it 10 stars.
Sony Camcorders fail in 2 years
There is currently a known issue with many of the Sony Camcorders. This is being called the "black screen of death".
What happens is that the camera works great for 1-2 years then the CCD goes out like a light. The camera will not take video again.
Sony is evasive if not downright deceitful about this issue when you call tech support. The fact is Sony does not stand behind their product. If this happens to you, Sony will not own the defect and you will be out hundreds of dollars.
There is a lengthy thread on CNET on this issue. Search for Sony black screen.
Wishing you luck in the purchase of your (not Sony) video camera,
Scott
