The reception is great, he takes one outside and leaves one with me so we can talk and he can check in with me. He has only taken them out into the front yard and across the cul de sac, so I'm not sure what kind of range they get but for short distances they are crystal clear. So far he has dropped them on the floor multiple times and left them on all night. They have not shown any signs of falling apart and battery life is looooong.
