If speed is important to you, then avoid Sandisk flash drives. Compared to similar drives from other manufacturers like Memorex, Sandisk drives are painfully s-l-o-w.
Sandisk Cruzer Mini
I've Used Sandisk Cruzer Mini's since they were making the 64Mb version. Sandisk is sinonimous with quality. Friends of mine have bought other brands and have them fail, while my Sandisk's keep functioning flawlessly.
If you need alot of space in a nice portable package the 2Gb cruzer is for you. This thing is about as wide as a wristwatch wristband. It is very light, and you can carry it on your keychain, in your pocket etc...
Setup is as easy as plugging it in. Windows 2000&XP will recofnize it immediately.
NOTE: As with most flash drives Windows 98 will require extra drivers, but they can be easily found on Sandisk's Website.
I haven't actually timed the transfer rate but as it is USB 2.0 , its pretty speedy when transfering large quantities of files.
It's one of the best flash drives out there and I trully recommend them for IT Guys as for the standard user.
Best Flash drive in my opinion out there today.
ssssssssllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww
I bought the 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Mini, because I wanted more storage capacity than the 512MB PNY Attache flash drive I bought 2 years ago.
Installation couldn't have been easier - like most flash drives, you just plug it in and your computer recognizes it as a new drive.
The first thing I did after plugging it in was a speed test: I copied a large folder full of files of varying sizes to the Sandisk Cruzer Mini, and copied the same folder to my old Attache flash drive. I timed both.
I was shocked to find that writing files to the Cruzer takes MORE THAN 4 TIMES AS LONG as writing files to the older Attache flash drive. I did more tests to make sure this result wasn't a fluke (and it wasn't), and then I returned the Sandisk Cruzer Mini, because speed is important for what I use flash drives for.
On the positive side, the Cruzer is well-constructed and comes with 3 caps, which is nice because the caps of most flash drives are easily lost. The Cruzer is also smaller than many flash drives, so if your computer's USB ports are very close together, plugging in the Cruzer won't obstruct access to the other USB port.
Here are two other options you might consider instead.
First, if speed is important to you, the Kingston DataTraveler Elite is a ridiculously fast USB flash drive. The build-quality is very good, the manufacturer is highly regarded and this model gets top reviews in computer magazines. On the downside, it's a little more expensive and not quite as tiny as this sandisk (though it is not any larger than the average USB flash drive).
Second, if speed is not important to you, then I suggest the Seagate 5GB Pocket Drive instead. It's a tiny hard drive in a very compact, light, and well-built package. It weighs only about 2.5 ounces and is amazingly small for an external hard drive. It plugs into the USB port via a 4-inch retractible cord. It costs about the same as this 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Mini, and is about the same speed, but holds 5GB worth of files. Seagate is one of the top hard-drive manufacturers and this is a reliable product.
