A quality phone [system]
I recently switched from a Motorola expandable phone system to the Uniden system for which this was an extra handset. Overall the system is very nice and easy to use. The jury is still out on the long-term reliability of this system (which was a HUGE problem with the Motorola's), but after a couple of months it is working well. Battery life has been surprisingly good.
I did have a problem with the LCD on this unit but exchanging it through Amazon.com was a breeze. I received this unit on Saturday, noticed the problem on Sunday, reported the problem to Amazon on Monday and received a new phone on Tuesday. That's good service.
Great phone!
I was very pleased with the auxilary handset I purchased. It's a perfect match for my Uniden system. Fast delivery, free shipping. What else can you ask for?
cordless recommendation
Have used this phone for a long time and would recommend it. I have the base model with the cordless option and use the cordless 99% of the time because the base (model tru8888) doesn't have headset option (only on cordless handset) and the phone on the base sounds weird...so unless uniden's current model is better, I'd say to stick with cordless model. Speaker phone does work well too...
Also, you can set up your phone with your local number and long distance calls would come up with a 1 before the area code, but so would any different area code (even local) so I'd recommend using the (*) feature on the phone to add 1 to your caller id phone number (nice feature and I use it all the time) - just press (*) on your handset and it adds a 1 to the number.

"Love the base and the handsets. Only one problem, wondering if anyone else has overcome this:
When you get an incoming long distance call, it saves the call without the '1'. So, for example, if I get a call from 1-800-555-1212, it only saves it as 800-555-1212, thus I cannot return the call from the caller ID list because when it dials it, it does not add the '1'...
Just an annoyance, the phone still is great."
