yay
I bought this for it's online multiplayer capability, I have yet to be dissapointed. Every time i multiplayer race I have a good time. The missions are very enjoyable as well.
Nintendo does it again!
This game sums up why I own a Nintendo DS. It's simply amazing! Before going on, I must warn you, do not buy this game for the online feature alone. While it may be fun, it certainly shows that this is the Big N's first online attempt. More on that later...
Graphics:
Probably the best the DS has produced thus far. It won't blow you away, but it's nice to see those miniscule details. My main complaint is that the shells don't spin, they're simply just moving. Not a big deal, but still... Also, Donkey Kong's teeth are 'stuck' together. Just a little wierd.

Sound:
Not unique or anything, but let's just say that it is hard to play the game without the sound on. The game mimmicks surround sound. Nice effect. You can hear anytime a shell or person is comin' for you, whether in front, behind, left, or right. The characters' voices are well done, from Mario's 'Lets-a-go!' to Dry Bones'...well, whatever sound he makes... It's quite humorous to hear someone when they have been 'shrunk' from lightning.

Gameplay:
Amazing! This game is probably the best Mario Kart to date. There are initially eight characters and two karts (each), with three unlockable characters. There's a total of 32 racing courses, 16 courses coming from the Super NES, Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, and Nintendo 64. Of course, Battle mode returns, along with a new mode called 'Shinerunners' (similar to battle, you just have to collect these stars within a time limit). Also, another mode called Missions is available. Fun mode, but short lived. Now on to the online feature. On the main screen, an option for Nintendo WiFi Connection is available. (On this mode, though, you can only race, you cannot battle.) It is impressively easy to set up. Good job on that Nintendo! However, the only way to play someone again is to have their 'friend code'. And, the only way to know their code is if you know the person, for the code is on their system. Sadly, these are not exchangeable on the Nintendo Forums, although there are sites specifically designed for this purpose. Once a race is established, it is completely lag free. Strangely, you cannot see their 'flames' from turbo-drifting. And item dragging has been taken out. Why? No clue....The real meat of the game is in local multiplayer. Even with only one game card, it is still incredibly fun, although the person without the game can only play as 'Shy Guy', and only 8 tracks are selectable. If all the players have the game though, the options are limitless! You'd be surprised how fast the hours go by with this game!

Overall probably the best game for the Nintendo DS. Don't hesitate to get this game, you will not be dissapointed.

Mario Kart DS, A Superstar Game
Mario Kart DS is a really exciting game with its fast speed and it is loaded with items. Mario Kart DS has tons of cool game modes like the following: Grand Prix, where the player chooses an engine class, a driver, a kart, and a cup to race the CPU in four competitive races (at first the only engine class the player can choose is 50cc); Time Trials, the player can choose any track he has and practice it until he feels confortable at that track; VS, where the player can challange the CPU to a race with the players rules; Battle, where the player fights to stay in the game and destroy his enemy; Missions, where the player has to complete eight missions before he can fight the boss in that level and the player has to start at level one; Records,where the player can look at times or trophies to see how good their doing.
During the game the player can do cool things like the following: Rocket Start, the player has to press and hold the A button at just the right time to get the rocket start; Drafting(new), where the player has to be behind the kart to draft and speed around the kart when the player sees white things around his kart; Drift, which helps when you are behind(press the R button and right or left on the control pad to preform the drift); Mini-Turbo, alternate between the left and right buttons on the control pad while holding R until the tires burn red then let go of the R button to preform the Mini-Turbo; Items, press X to throw the item, press the down button to throw the item backwards.
Items are the most helpful thing in the world because Nintendo added two new items, the bullet bill and the blooper, the bullet bill will fire the player to the middle ( or some times the front ) of the pack and the blooper will spray ink on the screen to block the player's vision to slow him down ( look at the bottom screen to keep going).
In the Options menu, there are three things the player can do, they are the following: Settings, here the player can change the sound and turn the locate friend thing on or off; Edit, here the player can change his nickname or create an emblem;
Erase Data, we all know what that does.
There are also two multiplayer modes they are the following: Normal Mode, this is wireless play; Simple Mode, this is download play.
I would recommend this game to players who like Mario Kart and a really fun game.
