Customer Reviews Best GPS - Better than in car units I had a 2004 Acura TL with built in Navigation which I was very pleased with. Then I traded for a 2006 Audi A4 without navi because I was not thrilled with Audi's interface for navigation. After one trip out of town, to Atlanta no less, I knew I needed a navigation system in my car. So, the search began. It started with trying a Magellan 760. The unit was not bad, had lots features but was large and it locked up several times. Then I tried the Tom Tom 700. It was okay but I was still missing my Acura system. Finally I tried the Nuvi. I am hooked. I love it. And now I want to take my wife to Switzerland so that I can try it out with the Swiss maps. The last time we were in Switzerland, we spent half of our trip trying to find ouir way around. Thanks Garmin. KSALGARDO I PURCHASED THIS DEVICE APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO. THE BIG ADVANTAGE TO THIS GPS IS IN ITS SIZE. IT IS VERY SMALL SO YOU CAN CARRY IT IN YOUR POCKET IF YOU WANT TO, AND USE IT WHILE WALKING, LIKE IN NEW YORK CITY. THE SIZE OF THE SCREEN IS ADAQUATE, AND EASY TO OBSERVE WHILE DRIVING. THE VOICE COMMANDS WORK WELL AND GIVE YOU PLENTY OF CHANCE TO POSITION YOURSELF IN THE RIGHT LANES PRIOR TO YOUR TURN OFF. THE BUILT IN ANTENNA WORKS WELL AND ACQUIRES A SIGNAL INSIDE A BUILDING OR ON YOUR CENTER CONSOL. I TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT GPS UNITS INSIDE CIRCUIT CITY, AND NONE OF THEM COULD OBTAIN A SIGINAL WITHOUT THE USE OF AND EXTERNAL ANTENNA GOING OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THE UNIT MOUNTS VERY EASILEY AROUND OR NEAR YOUR DASH OR ON THE CENTER CONSOL. MOST OTHER UNITS THAT YOU SEE ARE ATTACHED TO THE FRONT WIDSHIELD WHICH IS CONSIDERED A VISION OBSCUREMENT IN CALIF AND AGAINST THE LAW. I ORIGINALLY WAS LOOKING FOR A LARGER SIZE SCREEN. I THOUGHT BIGGER WAS BETTER, BUT I AM GLAD THAT I DECIDED ON THIS UNIT. THE NICE THING ABOUT THIS UNIT IS YOU CAN PUT IN IN YOUR OVERNIGHT BAG AND FLY TO A DESTINATION AND USE IT IN A RENTAL CAR. THE SCREEN SIZE CLARITY ALONG WITH CLEAR VOICE ACTIVATED DIRECTIONS MAKE UP FOR ANY SCREEN ISSUES. I WOULD APPROACH MULTILANE FREEWAYS AND THE DISPLAY WOULD INCREASE IN SIZE AND GUIDE ME INTO THE PROPER POSITION WITH VOICE COMMANDS, AND VISUAL ARROWS PRIOR TO MY TURN, AND I MIGHT ADD IT WAS VERY ACCURATE. I HAD TO MAKE SEVERAL TURNS IN LESS THEN A QUARTER OF A MILE IN A BUSY CITY, AND THIS GPS POSITIONED ME CORRECTLY, GUIDING ME INTO THE RIGHT LANES SO I COULD MAKE THE CORRRECT TURNS. ANOTHER NICE FEATURE OF THIS UNIT IS THE ABILITY TO LOCATE SPECIFIC LOCATIONS. FOR EXAMPLE YOU ARE APPRAOACHING A CITY AND YOU WANT TO LOCATE A NEAR BY STARBUCKS. YOU JUST TYPE IN STARBUCKS AND IT WILL TAKE YOU RIGHT TO YOUR FAVORITE CUP OF COFFEE AND THEN GUIDE YOU RIGHT BACK ON YOUR COURSE OF DIRECTION FOR YOUR TRIP. IN CONCLUSION I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GPS TO ANYBODY. IT IS A VERY ACCURATE AND VERY WELL BUILD UNIT THAT IS EASY TO USE. THE UNIT IS LITE AND CAN BE PLACED ANYWHERE AROUND THE DASH WITH THE EXISTING MOUNT THAT IS PROVIDED BY GARMIN. THE DISPLAY IS EASY TO SEE IN LOW LIGHT AND BRIGHT LIGHT SITUATIONS. IT COMES WITH A CAR CHARGER AND A 110 HOME CHARGER. IT ALSO HAS A BUILT IN BATTERY THAT LASTS APROXIMATELY 4 HOURS ON A SINGLE CHARGE. I WOULD GIVE THIS UNIT 10 STARS IF THEIR WAS A RATTING THAT HIGH. Get's me where I need to go - lots of features I became hopelessly addicted to GPS navigation when I drove a B9 Tribeca for six months. When I had to give the car back, I knew my next purchase would be a GPS system for my older car. The Nuvi does indeed work great "out of the box" but it took me a second to learn that the antenna had to be raised before it would get satellite signals. I particularly like hearing directions in other languages so I can brush up on them.....and if I go to Europe this summer I'll be sure to have a language translation pack. The MP3 player is another feature I like. It's not stereo quality but I can listen to a custom playlist while driving without having to wear IPod headphones. All-in-all a great unit that I've not regretted buying.
