A Great Monitor!
The picture is very nice, no problems. Though not its' intended primary use, what this monitor adds to viewing DVDs is amazing. Through the combination of proximity to the monitor and the wide screen, one's field-of-view is surprisingly filled. All games are positively enhanced through the wide screen. Some websites do not expand to fit the whole screen and others do, but this is the websites issue. Color accuracy is high. Clarity and fine print excellent. The response time is better than many on the market at higher prices and smaller screens. And Viewsonic is a well-known brand. Much more comforting than buying an off-brand and hoping the low cost does not equal low picture quality.
I recommend this monitor. Especially if you use it as a multi-media center.
Good monitor for the price
I bought this monitor last month and it has been nothing short of amazing since then. The picture is very bright and clear, and the widescreen is a wonderful feature. Even though most websites don't fill the width of the screen, I can still easily fit other windows side by side of a web browser so I can see them all at the same time. I have watched several DVD's on this screen and they have all looked wonderful.
I use the ViewSonic monitor as an additional screen to my laptop. I also am usually in school with my laptop so I am constantly plugging in and unplugging the ViewSonic when I leave or arrive home. This process is very easy and the monitor responds immediately whenever it detects a computer connected.
The DVI and VGA connections are nice because it can connect to older and newer computers (both cables are included). The plastic cover on the back of the monitor covers up where the plugs are inserted so it looks a little neater. I would not recommend using the internal speakers for full time use, especially if you listen to music or watch videos. However they are a really nice feature if you don't happen to have external speakers with you but still want to be able to hear simple sounds such as email, chat, etc. The setup of this monitor was very easy, just plugged it in and it worked. A CD is included that has all necessary drivers; however the monitor may work without installation of these. The time from receiving the box from Amazon and having the monitor up and running was only a couple of minutes.
Overall recommendation:
This is a very nice monitor. I'm sure it's not the best quality if you need an incredibly sharp picture for gaming, advanced multimedia editing, etc. However I've found that for web browsing, photo, audio, and DVD's this monitor has a great picture. The only real negative is that the monitor does not have an adjustable height (it does tilt though). If you need a higher end display I recommend checking out the Dell Ultrasharp's-- Those ones are beautiful. However if you are looking for a great display for not a lot of money then this is the one for you.
Great Monitor, Cheap Stand
Very happy with the VA1912wb so far. Much larger, brighter and better color than my old viewsonic monitor. The wide screen is really neat and makes everything look much better. My only complaints are the terrible users manual and the inexpensive black plastic stand that it comes on. A little piece of black plastic pops off the back of the monitor so you can plug in your wires. Getting it back on is not so easy with the wires plugged in. The whole stand contains no metal and is very cheap looking for such a fine monitor. It only sticks up maybe 4 inches from your desk. If it sat up 6 or 8 inches and had a little metal in it, I would be happy. Overall I would buy it again. Am looking for a better stand though. Unfortunately, my graphics card does not support the 1440 x 900 resolution that the monitor keeps asking for or the picture would be even better.
